Established in 2003, Wine Critic Robert Parker bestowed upon wine made from grapes harvested from Theopolis Vineyards a stellar rating of 94-96 points, a spectacular showing for the vintner’s first harvest in 2006. HISTORY Emboldened by the great fruit produced by the land, its owner and founder, Theodora R. Lee aka Theo-patra, Queen of the Vineyards, a bold and dynamic Texan and San Francisco trial lawyer, is now bottling her own award winning wines. In addition to bottling the richly intense and flavorful Petite Sirah and Rosé of Petite Sirah, Theopolis Vineyards strikes a lighter note by bottling a Symphony, a white wine, which is a crossing of Muscat and Grenache Gris. While we have a portfolio of eleven wines under our label, we have a number of products already negotiated to join them soon. Having gotten his initial education through several years of weekly tastings of wines from around the world, and after having brought two parties together for a wine deal, he made the decision to hop in and start his own endeavor. His specialty is Italian wines, and he is currently also learning those from Portugal and Spain. He is also a Soul Wines ambassador, representing some 30+ wineries from the Douro region. Happy Hour Kits is the latest offering by Happied, a Washington, DC based platform connecting people to the best restaurants and bars and to each other. When COVID-19 shut down restaurants and bars, we quickly sprung into action to launch virtual happy hour cocktail classes to keep people socially connected and bring needed income to displaced bartenders. After hosting thousands of attendees from across the country, we wanted to make it easier for at-home happy hour goers to get all the ingredients and tools they need to make perfect drinks. Many farming communities worldwide use basic agriculture practices that sometimes don't produce enough food or income to live on. Traditional, hollow beehives hanged in trees are one of these practices – they produce only a few pounds of poor quality honey per year – while frame beehives invented in 1852 and top bar hives produce up to ten times more honey. The people in the Kafa forest region of Ethiopia live on a few dollars a day due to outdated farming practices such as these traditional hives, which they hang in trees for wild bees to inhabit – watch how they do it. Meanwhile, their low incomes are forcing them to cut down the important Kafa rainforest – where coffee originated – for planting crops and to make charcoal from the wood. These practices reduced native tree cover in Ethiopia from 40% to 3% in the last 50 years! Ironically, less tree flowers means less honey. Proceeds from wine sales will finance modern beehive conversions in Kafa and earn Kafa families five times more household income while saving their forest and reducing carbon emissions – read more on sustainability, forests and the plight of bees in our award-winning playful and informative book. With partners, Ayele is working on a much larger project to conserve 250,000 hectares in Kafa, share forest carbon revenues with communities and convert thousands of beehives to modern ones, read about it here. GROWING UP IN RUSSELVILLE, OH AND THEN MOVING TO GEORGETOWN, OH SHE EXCELLED IN SCHOOL AND HER STUDIES. BEING THE ONLY AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN IN HER CLASS SHE GRADUATED VALEDICTORIAN OF THE 1952 CLASS. SHE WAS A TRENDSETTER EVEN BACK THEN SHE REFUSED TO CONFORM TO SOCIETAL STANDARDS AND TOOK A STAND TO WEAR PANTS AS OPPOSED TO A DRESS TO GRADUATION. ALWAYS THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX SHE FOUND OUTLETS TO ALWAYS GAIN A SOURCE OF INCOME FOR HERSELF. SHE STARTED SELLING CANDY TO CHILDREN IN HER HOME IN HAZELWOOD, OH THAT WAS SITTING NEXT TO A SMALL PARK - MAKING SURE THAT HER CHILDREN WERE TAKEN CARE OF. THE “REDD ROSE” BRAND IS BIGGER THAN WHAT IT MAY APPEAR TO BE. WITH REDD ROSE WE CELEBRATE WOMEN - ALL WOMEN.
