It all started when a college student with very little money decided to take a creative approach to Christmas gifts. After finding out about a cousin’s allergy to coconut oil (a very common ingredient in natural skincare), Nikki worked on perfecting recipes that are gentle enough for sensitive skin without cutting back on quality. Many years of testing and tweaking have resulted in the rich, nourishing, natural products that we have available today. We at All Hail seek to make self care safe, simple, and sustainable. Everything in our bath and body shop is made with easy-to-pronounce ingredients and with sensitive skin in mind. My name is Zainab. I am a second-generation immigrant from The Gambia & Senegal, located in West Africa. I am also a graduate of Queens College in Flushing, NY and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology as well as Middle Eastern Studies, with a minor in Arabic. For those that know me well or have known me long enough, they know my passion (dare I say, obsession) for makeup, skincare & hair care. When you would see me, you knew you’d see a full beat on my face, whether it was full glam or a no-makeup makeup look. I first started wearing makeup to cover up dark spots, acne & any other imperfection here & there. Then slowly it became a way for me to express myself & hone in on my creative side. Growing up, I dealt with eczema, dry skin as well as acne & hyperpigmentation. Being that my skin was very fragile and sensitive, I could only use natural products & I had to be very careful with what I put on my skin. Using the wrong thing would cause me to have severe allergic reactions. I have tried everything from well known high-end expensive products, to the affordable drugstore products. Almost none of them have worked for me and products that contained chemicals and/or steroids were too harsh on my delicate skin. I had to do extensive research on what would work well naturally, but also would not be harsh or abrasive for my skin. Finally, I found/created what worked for me. I was able to formulate products that were all natural, safe, good for the skin & suitable for all skin types, that also tackle issues like acne, hyper-pigmentation, etc. These products are really beneficial for the hair as well, being that the ingredients are all natural. Having clear healthy skin allowed me to not have to worry about covering up imperfections & also allowed for a smooth & flawless makeup application when I do decide to wear makeup. Most of my free time has been spent self-teaching, studying popular herbalists and researching ancestral uses of herbs, essential oils and teas for healing. The Soapothecary Co. is the result my efforts to build a whole food plant-based lifestyle with mindful supplementation. Sea Moss has been a staple in my house for the last 7 years and has been transformative to my overall health, and my son’s health during pregnancy and continues to contribute as we thrive mentally and physically. From birth, my son has struggled with eczema. While trying to identify the root cause, I discovered that he is allergic to wheat, soy, dairy, tree nuts, shrimp/shellfish, eggs and peanuts. Consuming any of these would trigger itchy eczema patches on his body resulting in long nights of scratching as well as broken, irritated skin. As a mom, I was worried, but I did not want to cover my baby in chemicals that I couldn't pronounce. I decided that everything I applied to our skin would be as close to food safe as possible and would also need to be low on the hypoallergenic and comedogenic scales. This proved to be nearly impossible to find in stores, so utilized my knowledge of herbal remedies to create safe and effective products that I could use and that were safe to use on my newborn baby. The Soapothecary Co was born.
