I am a Hair-Scalp Specialist, Kitchen Alchemist and Founder at Blumseed, where I help women of color practice self-care to reawaken and realize their individual true beauty. I come from a creative entrepreneurial family-- grandparents who made livelihoods with their hands cobbling and molding, a mother who displayed true pride in her natural beauty, and a father with an incessant need for melodic perfection. They all inspired me to create an organic beauty line that is for me the essence of health and healing. I shepherd clients through a curated hair experience by creating individualized, custom hair/ scalp treatments using organic botanicals, oils and Ayurvedic ingredients. Expected results: healthy scalp + hair growth = long, healthy hair! True joy for me is creating my products by hand, as was taught to me by my grandparents. Handmade to me is so unique and special, as I get to leave details of me in the world. This is a beautiful thing! My beauty line is inspired by childhood memories, of musk, the smell of herbs and toasted coconuts. A lot of my inspiration comes from the natural products my mother used to beautify her hair and skin with and my grandmother’s healing potions plucked right from her garden. These memories have always stuck with me and now I try and find ways to incorporate beauty and healing in everything I do.

Charlotte welcomes a constant tide of devoted clients, from the world of business, music and TV to people who’ve walked through the door so many times they feel like old friends. Her phenomenal talent has made her a familiar face at industry events and award ceremonies. She was recently crowned ‘Afro Hairdresser of the Year’ for the 3rd time at the British Hairdressing Awards and now enters their Hall of Fame and rightly takes her place in the most exclusive club in British Hairdressing. These three awards sit at the pinnacle of an already impressive list of over 20 accolades that she has achieved in both hair & business. Charlotte has been at the forefront of the natural haircare movement since the early 2000 and has been a columnist on the subject since 2005. She is recognised as the Go To authority regarding maintaining Natural Afro, Mixed & Curly textures by magazines such as Elle, Vogue, Harpers Bizarre and Tattler to name a few. Charlotte believes that your hair, needs to be properly maintained and cared for, so it looks and feels its best. As education is close to her heart, Charlotte set up the Charlotte Mensah Academy holding workshops to pass on her skills to young individuals in Ghana where she grew up, enabling them to build better lives for themselves and their families. She has also set up a charity, L.O.V.E. (Ladies of Visionary Empowerment), aimed at furthering education opportunities for young women in Africa.

In 2018 we raised funding from Angel investors and funds from our WeWork Global Creator Award and Backstage Capital were added to the round in 2019. Akua Wood of Sheabutter Cottage founded her toiletry brand Cioccolatina in November 2002 in response to her frustration in trying to find a natural range of toiletries to moisturise her skin, as well as to fulfil her need to work at home. "The British cold, damp winters and raw winds came as a shock when I moved to England" - especially to her skin. A Ghanaian native who had spent a year studying in Italy, she was used to kinder climes ... and better moisturisers. So she made a virtue out of necessity and started concocting her own, using an ingredient native to her country of birth: shea butter. The birth of multi award-winning Sheabutter Cottage in 2004 was in response to the growth of the need for more natural ethical ingredients including exotic butters + supplies.
