Knotty Loop

Hair & Headwear, Accessories, Fashion, Clothing, Swim, Women’s, Other, Accessories, Scarves
Women Owned, Handmade
I didn't follow the traditional designer’s journey; I began designing as the result of a dare from a friend. I introduced my first creations during the Xmas holiday of 2005. Those first designs sparked a tremendous interest which in turn awakened a skill that I really forgot . Since that time KnottyLoop Creations has been featured in numerous magazines, fashion shows and has been spot-lighted on ABC’s 7 on your side. My fashions have been worn by names like India Arie and Chrisette Michelle. At KnottyLoop you will find unique crochet apparel and accessories to adorn both the body and the spirit. I truly believe that when you look your best, you surround yourself with a positive energy and you instinctively feel good. My lair for design coupled with a swarm of new yarns in a multitude of colors and textures have given new life to an old art which has traditionally been thought of to be too bulky or outdated. My goal is to continue to design unique crochet clothing which both fun and functional. My clients range in age from 2 to 82, from a size 0 to 24. Mona aka Ms. KnottyLoop says “Don’t believe the hype….this ain’t your Grandmothers crochet”. Crochet melds stunningly into the latest trends. KnottyLoop Creations can offer the best of both worlds - Sass and Class.

DesiredKnits

Hair & Headwear, Accessories, Home & Garden, Decor, Other, Fashion, Accessories, Handbags
Women Owned, Handmade
The seed of DesiredKnits was planted in 2002 when a grandmother taught her granddaughter how to crochet her first potholder. Coming from generations of crafters in the art of crochet, knitting, and weaving, DesiredKnits is a manifestation of legacies of strong, creative, and Divine women, who walked through this world standing firm in their truth and their identity. As a woman and a Woman of Color, I have often struggled with feeling enough. Being good enough, brave enough, capable enough, etc. It wasn’t until my journey of learning to love myself and creating my own path to stand in my authenticity like the phenomenal women who came before me, that I was able to identify my value by breaking old beliefs through positive affirmations. Positive affirmations were introduced to me by a soulsister, who empowered me to begin speaking life and positivity over myself like I would a friend. “I AM” are the two most powerful words you can utter, because whatever comes after them connect to our inner beliefs about ourselves and will eventually be reflected in our actions. With DesiredKnits, my goal is to create items that are inspired by positive affirmations to both cultivate a shift negative self talk that impacts our lives daily, and to empower others to see themselves as the light beams that they are and to continue to spread this light to others. I AM excited to share my craft and inspire a community of people to speak life over others as well as themselves.

Ashaka Givens

Hair & Headwear, Accessories, Fashion, Clothing, Men’s, Women’s, Footwear, Accessories, Jewelry, other, Miscellaneous
Women Owned
Women's Wear Daily wrote it best when describing the Ashaka Givens collection in 2003: "slinky and seventies a la Halston with a dash of bohemia." The fashion trade magazine subsequently bestowed on Givens a "most promising designer" nod at her last Mercedes Benz Fashion Week runway show in 2005 for her sleek red carpet-ready looks, placing the Rochester, New York native on their "Ones to Watch" list. And a wide cross-section of tastemakers took note: The Roots' funky drummer ?uestlove; singer Raphael Saadiq; rapper/actor Common, and Kenyan artist Wangechi Mutu, to name a few who have commissioned one-of-a-kind pieces from Givens. Givens' love affair with fashion began in high school where she intuitively taught herself how to design women's clothing and produced her own runway shows. She went on to study fashion design at Buffalo State College and spent a leg of her time there as a student at the Manchester Metropolitan University in England. It was abroad where she honed her tailoring techniques and studied couture design. Givens further developed her signature style think "funk-meets-sophistication" at the Fashion Institute of Technology, graduating with the class of 1996. Upon graduating, Givens began designing custom pieces for her first major client, Erykah Badu, who she met in New York City in 1996 at the brink of her musical career. She began dressing the singer for events such as the Grammys, music videos, international tours, and live television performances. Badu, then a rising music sensation, big screen star and fashion plate, landed on best-dressed lists across the country, crediting Givens along the way. When Badu exclaimed to People magazine that Givens "has the best fit on the planet," the endorsement marked Givens' arrival on red carpets the nation over. Several years later Rosario Dawson echoed Badus' sentiment telling the designer that she loves the spirit embodied in her pieces. Since, her celebrity clientele has grown to include singer Angie Stone, TLC, Floetry, actress Annabella Sciorra, Les Nubians, and many more. In 2006 Givens expanded her women's ready-to-wear line to include bridal and special occasion dressing. She debuted her first bridal gowns during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and stated: "In the spirit of my women's wear line, I want my brides' gowns to reflect their individuality. Wangechi Mutu, known in the art world for her originality, paid me a gracious compliment at her wedding saying that she loved her gown so much she intended to preserve it in order to pass it down to her daughter one day." That timeless elegance has enabled her to build a solid fan base comprised of fashionistas, magazine editors, stylists, musicians, artists and actors. After a four-year hiatus, Givens has returned to do what she loves best: making women feel beautiful, sensual and powerful in her chic goddess-like creations. With a love for draping the female form in sumptuous fabrics, bold colors and sensual silhouettes, Givens is back. And women will be all the better for it.

A King Bee

Hair & Headwear, Accessories, Fashion, Accessories, Jewelry, Miscellaneous
Women Owned
My mind conceives, my heart believes & my hands create I am from the beautiful island of Saint Lucia! As a child, I was enamored with my grandmother's gorgeous Singer sewing machine. I would linger near her keenly observing how she joyfully maneuvered the fabric and machine -though maybe not enough! I was equally enthralled with the annual Carnival festivities because it started with my father, uncle, and a whole team of people setting up a big costume workshop where I could revel in the color, sparkle, and sheer magnificence of their creations. It's fair to say that creativity is in my blood. I hope to share my talent and passions with you through my products and projects. I enjoy creating things that I love and would use myself (or gift to friends and family), and I invite you to have fun with them also! Thanks for visiting my shop! Stay connected :) xoxo Adhara

Women Owned, Handmade
Hello all! I am Zi Bella, originally from a small island called Dominica in the West Indies and currently I live in Maryland,USA. My passion for plants and plant medicine started from a young age. I grew up in household that valued natural living and plant based healing. I always wanted to be a botanist or bio chemist however circumstances and resources did not align and that dream never realized. However that passion has never gone away and has manifested in many roles and forms in my life. I am now a nurse, and my goal is to show that complementary or natural medicines can work alongside western medicine. Sometime all that is needed is a decoction or a salve.

Voluptuous Threads

Hair & Headwear, Accessories, Fashion, Clothing, Women’s, Other
Women Owned, Handmade
Curvy silhouettes are always in fashion! A neuroscientist by day, I first started crocheting as a hobby in August 2011. Never touching a crochet hook before that time, I found that I had a natural talent for it. From there, I decided I wanted to design wearable crochet for full-figured ladies (like myself) with an urban edge. And voila, Voluptuous Threads was born.
