A Kids Book About

Fashion, Clothing, Accessories, Handbags, Entertainment & Toys, Books, Miscellaneous
It all started with A Kids Book About Racism, a book written by co-founder and CEO, Jelani Memory. As a black father with a blended family (four white kids and two brown kids), racism was an inevitable topic of conversation. He thought he’d only print one copy, but it turned out other grownups thought their kids could use an honest kids book on the topic. That one book turned into more by new authors on topics like belonging, feminism, gratitude, cancer, and so many more. Meet A Kids Book About, a new kind of publishing company that makes kids books that matter, because kids are ready.

My name is Chantel Weaver and I am a recent graduate from Emmanuel College. While at Emmanuel I was able to hone my skills in a wide variety of mediums, including but not limited too, Printmaking, Ceramics and Painting. From there I received my Bachelors in Art Therapy. Before Emmanuel I attended a high school of fine arts and theater. It was there that I discovered my passion for painting and upon exiting I was able to get my work temporarily placed in a local museum of Connecticut as well as winning first place in a number of contests. Since moving to Boston in 2007 I have worked on developing a trademark style of my own that would help me to stand out among the many other artists of the city. I draw my inspiration from the Pop Art and impressionist eras. I typically work with acrylics and oil on canvas or Masonite but occasionally work with wood, carving portraits into slabs of wood a technique typically used in printmaking, Since moving to Boston I've focused on developing my techniques but I have created freelance pieces for the exposure for the company the Boston Bazaar. Now that I am out of school I have more time to create. In May 2013 I made a cross country move road trip style to the West Coast. I am now located in Seattle and loving it.

Getawaygirl

Every day is a new adventure...make it uniquely yours Each piece of jewelry is designed and created by hand in my Virginia studio. Genuine, untreated stones and occasional pearls are sourced from small providers in small quantities based on quality and uniqueness to create one of a kind jewelry. Gemstone pieces are influenced by the beauty of each stone and a desire to showcase these with minimal distraction. Metalsmithed pieces explore texture and metal combinations. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest surrounded by deep greens and cultivated mosses, with mountains and deep forests as well as rugged coastlines just over an hour from my home. On group hikes I was attracted to jaspers and river stones, mosses and other found objects. Many of my pieces reflect these early influences and often trend toward greens and blues across the spectrum including stones such as green kyanite, moss agate, malachite, azurite and chrysocolla, as well as stones with organic freeform shapes and unfinished edges.

Once that statement sinks in, the exciting fantasies of what he or she will look like, that first snuggle, and designing the perfect nursery to welcome your little one will start to roll in. But, before you can truly wrap your brain around this next endeavor, most likely you will start to receive a flood of sweet and generous celebratory gifts from friends and family. Like the neon pink onesie with attached sparkling tutu and matching princess bonnet, from, your dear Auntie and Uncle. Or, the asymmetrical, post-apocalyptic, vegan leather sleeved jacket from your friend who thinks a dinner reservations at 11pm is perfectly normal. That's the situation I found myself in. And, as I searched and searched for that perfect in between, that would support my minimalistic yet fashion thoughtful aesthetic, my brand Miles and Milan was born. Named after my lovely niece and nephew; I set out to develop a brand that provides key basics and fashion items that are playful, effortless, and current. A brand that grows with your child and hopefully removes the fuss in dressing to help you enjoy those precious moments a little more. I hope you enjoy!

STINA & MAE was started shortly after our Founder, Mishell, had her first child. The former fashion journalist went from front row to the changing table with her first product, the SAFI Changing mat. After finding it difficult to find a changing mat that kept her son from touching gross public changing tables she decided to create one. She wanted the mat to be water resistant on both sides, antimicrobial for easy cleaning and large enough to keep adventurous hands from touching anything. Thus, SAFI vegan leather baby changing mat was created. At the inception of STINA & MAE Mish set out to create social impact at every level of the company.Through social she joined mom chat groups to build community around motherhood. Also creating partnership with organizations that help aid families in need by donating 2% of revenue yearly to help fight childhood hunger or working with organizations that bring awareness to maternal help.

The Rooted Baby Co.

Hair & Headwear, Accessories, Home & Garden, Other, Children, Fashion, Clothing, Childrens, Other
Women Owned, Handmade
Well, hello! We're so glad you stopped by to get to know us. My name is Alfreda Abena. My husband and I have been together since 2012 and married for the last 4 years. We welcomed our first child, Noah Kofi in spring 2018. I created The Rooted Baby Co. in honor of him. As a child, my father would tell me and my younger siblings stories about his life growing up in a little mountain village in Ghana. He told us about his parents, and the legacy left by his grandparents and great-grandparents. Stories of running and hiding from his older brothers in bushes with the sweetest berries, watching his mother cook with love, and of the vibrant celebrations the whole village would share. Through these stories, old pictures, and visits, I have always taken pride in my roots. It's a thought that is always in the back of my mind. It's a part of what defines me and is a driving force behind my much too many (read: never enough) stacks of vibrant Ghanaian art and fabric. When I gave birth to Noah Kofi, I naturally wanted to share my roots and love for Ghana with him. I not only want to recount the stories but to give him tangible pieces of Ghana in his everyday life. One day, frustrated with the selection of unique baby items, I decided to go into my stack of colorful fabric and make him some baby accessories from scratch. This is how The Rooted Baby Co. was "born"...to celebrate our roots and yours, Ghanaian culture, and pass it on to the next generation. Come learn about Ghana and celebrate the culture with me and my family! Make a striking statement with items as simple and bold as baby accessories. Our roots, your roots, are only just the beginning of the story.

Amber Poiter Inc.

Fashion, Accessories, Jewelry, Handbags

Amber Poitier Inc. is a leather accessories brand that is proudly MADE IN AMERICA. In 2015, Alicia Appleton created the brand in New York. While Alicia was working in corporate fashion design in NYC, she came to loathe her job as a designer. These daily intense levels of bureaucracy led to the beginnings of severe health issues. As a result, Alicia decided to go back to the beginning of her love for creativity and she started to make accessories again. She named the company Amber because , like her art it also embodies healing properties. When a tree has a disease, the tree releases resin that encases and stops the disease. As a result, the tree can continue to grow. The creation of the company and products brought a sense of healing back into her life. Poitier was chosen, because of her respect of Mr. Sidney Poitier’s life journey, integrity and creativity that she rediscovered after reading “Measure of a Man".
