Seasonal Frostbite

Entertainment & Toys, Dolls
Women Owned
So what is Seasonalfrostbite? Well, its a frostbite that last all season long...hhaaha I know It's weird I came up with the name when I was in middle school that was my artist tag, before i came up with that it was "Lucky_k" but everyone wanted to be lucky and have K in their name. Anywho I'm an artist! I made this shop to share and sell my hobbies, interests, and crafting. I started out realizing when I was a freshman at GHC that I really love to craft and make things, before I'd buy something I asked myself "Can I make it?" and not only "Can I make it?" but, "CAN WE BUILD IT?" ((Hahaha, bob the builder)) Anyways I went on to start my store on Etsy. I wasn't able to make and ship on my Etsy at first so I got into papercraft! Selling my papercraft creations was a great way to make money for books without having to ship. Now I can ship actual items but my love for papercraft will be mixed in my store. I started my etsy to be a successful person earning money doing what they love to do.

Hello everyone, I'm Jennifer, current stay at home mother of two. I began crocheting in 2015 when I first found out I was pregnant with my first child, Benedict. I wanted to make him things that were special and one of a kind. At first, starting out was difficult because I was working full time and needed to take care of my son. Finding the time to set aside for it felt impossible. But now that I stay home I can dedicate more time to my craft. I opened this shop because I got upset going to the store and not finding the right size, really cute baby hat. And since having my premature daughter Effie, I wanted to make adorable things for babies that would fit a variety of sizes that one would need. But my shop isn't just for the cute babies in your lives, I have made items such as ties for my husband, Sci-Fi inspired hats for my brother-in-law, and much more. I have hand crafted gifts for baby, child, and adult alike. So I invite you to take a closer look and may you find something special for you and your loved ones. I’m very excited to share my creations with you and your family. Happy shopping!

Paper Play + Wonder

Entertainment & Toys, Dolls, Other, Office, Paper & Stationery, Other, Arts & Crafts
Women Owned
In our tech-saturated world, if you were to put a couple of boxes, pots and pans in front of kids they'd create buses, firetrucks, drum sets and numerous other things just from their imaginations! That is a huge part of what drives the passion here at Paper Play + Wonder. I want to foster creativity and fun fueled by imagination! After all, imaginations are terrible things to waste! ? Closely related to the power of imagination is the power of images. There is something to be said about turning on the television or browsing online and seeing positive images that look like you. At the start of 2020, Paper Play + Wonder was born. As a mom of three African-American kids, I felt a drive to create something for my children and children all over who, like them, were unaccustomed to seeing their likenesses in their toys. Each time I begin a new illustration, I do so with the intent of fostering and encouraging cultural pride, positive self identity and belonging. One of my greatest joys when working on the launch of my shop, was to have my children come in, glance at one of my prints and ask “Oh! Is that me!?”. Representation is so important - at any age - and I’m honored to share a piece of my heart with my family, friends and the community at large. Please stay a while and enjoy looking around my shop!

Jai Jai' s Corner

Creating one Jai Jai at a time to your satisfaction! I fell into my passion for crafting dolls after being exposed to black dolls in a few venues that highlighted dolls adorned in African & Afrocentric garb with black features. They embodied a sense of pride and I wished I could do it too. My friend, Laverne, my former ministry partner said, “I think you are ready to make full sized dolls.” I questioned it initially and went to work in figuring it out. In August 2018, Jai Jai Dollz was birthed and I sold my first doll in Atlanta to a woman from Germany and from there several of my friends in the National Association of Black Social Workers ordered dolls too.

Sibahle Collection

Children, Fashion, Clothing, Childrens, Footwear, Entertainment & Toys, Toys, Dolls, Books, Miscellaneous
Women Owned
The Sibahle Collection is a product of Bounce Essentials Africa, founded by Caroline Hlahla and Khulile Vilakazi-Ofosu in 2016. Sibahle is a Zulu word that means “We are beautiful”. The Sibahle Collection was born from the need to encourage our black children to be comfortable in their own skin! The first 2 dolls under this collection, i.e. Nobuhle (meaning the one that represents beauty in Zulu) and Bontle (meaning beauty in Sotho) have features that resemble that of an African child. The dolls smell of vanilla and have typical 4C Afro hair. Our hope with these dolls is that they can teach our black children how to care for their own natural hair from a young age as well as grow up being affirmed and taking pride in being African! The world is diverse, with people of different races. South Africa in particular, is affectionately known as the Rainbow Nation. We want every child to grow up aware of the beautiful and rich diversity that South Africa and the world at large has to offer. We are hoping with the addition of the “Rainbow Nation” Collection, we will teach children of all races to appreciate and embrace diversity.

deseta

Home & Garden, Decor, Other, Entertainment & Toys, Dolls, Office, Paper & Stationery, Greeting Cards, Wedding, Holidays
Women Owned, Made in America
selam, and thank you for stopping by. deseta, which means “happiness” in amharic, is design and style inspired by traditional ethiopian art and culture, but with a fun and updated twist. it is no coincidence that the aesthetic found here reflects my cultural makeup: an ethiopian by birth who was raised in the midwest, and now calls brooklyn home. when i launched this site in nov 2012, i had wanted a place to showcase my mixed media and ceramic pieces, two of the art mediums i was exploring at that time. true to my cultural background, both artforms expressed my take on the traditional motifs and patterns found in ethiopian art. the mixed media pieces recreated the traditional angel motif by merging my love for fabrics (thanks to my life as a textile designer & product developer by trade) with painting. the ceramic pieces were hand painted with designs inspired by the beautiful and inticate patterns found in orthodox crosses. but soon after the site launch, instead of showcasing more of these pieces, i found myself building the “deseta brand” – a brand that is ethiopian inspired with a commercial, universal appeal for casual, everyday items. currently, my focus is on designing stationery with a stylish ethiopian design twist, which will also include wedding invitations coming this winter. but i still have love for my mixed media angels! currently, those pieces are made on a custom-order basis. if you are interested in having a piece commissioned, please feel free to contact me and we can start a conversation. please do come back and visit again. drop me a line if you have any inquiries or comments – i would love to hear from you. and please sign up for my occasional email newletters in the form below and follow me on my facebook and instagram pages for updates on new designs and last minute deals. thank you, maro haile

Nia Ballerina

Fashion, Accessories, Handbags, other, Entertainment & Toys, Dolls
Women Owned, Ships Internationally
Nia Ballerina is a UK based company and we have designed musical jewelry boxes with black ballerinas. We first launched our music boxes in August 2016, and currently sell our boxes worldwide direct to consumers from our own website. We also have a number of independent retailers located in Europe, the USA and Canada who stock our boxes. Nia Ballerina is the inspiration of my own daughter, and her absolute love for ballet from the age of before she was even 3 years. As any mother, I wanted to support my daughter in her passion and began to take an interest in the ballet industry. It became obvious that ballerinas from diverse backgrounds were and still are hugely underrepresented within the industry. I felt it was vitally important that my daughter saw images of herself as a ballerina, and one way to achieve this for children is by the toys they play with and books they read. My mother had brought my daughter a jewelry box with a ballerina figurine, however I did not understand why the ballerina did not resemble my daughter! I wanted my daughter to have a music box with a ballerina that looked like her, and had presumed music boxes with black ballerinas were readily available. I searched for about 18 months both in the UK and in different countries around the world but was unable to find any musical jewelry boxes containing black ballerina figurines. I finally made the decision in the autumn of 2015 that I would begin the process of creating my own music box with a black ballerina. The process of producing the music boxes has taken time, has not been easy and has meant learning a lot of new things and skills but has been worth it. When the Nia Ballerina music boxes first launched, we were inundated with orders and struggled to keep up with the demand selling half of our total stock within the first week. Luckily, we were able to reorder almost immediately after launching and now dispatch from the UK, and also direct from the USA via a fulfilment house. I never thought when I created this product for my own daughter there would be such a demand, however it shows that representations is important and that every ballerina deserves to see themselves when they open a music box. As a mother, I do feel proud that I have created a product and brand, Nia Ballerina for my daughter, which is inspiring her to follow her dream of being a ballerina!
