Grey Remedy Ceramics

Home & Garden, Decor, Other, Miscellaneous, Arts & Crafts
Women Owned, Made in America, Handmade
Grey Remedy celebrates the creation of art as a form of meditation. For Melissa J. Chin, working with clay, which initially started out as a small hobby, quickly transformed into a lesson on the power of discipline, persistence, and patience. The focus and self-control required to create ceramics allowed Melissa to explore mindfulness in a way that she had never tapped into, inspiring her to pursue more balance in her life outside of the studio. Driven by this new passion, Melissa decided to dive into her creative journey in the summer of 2017. Grey Remedy is the product of her daily practice in making art to ground herself. All Grey Remedy pieces are made with stoneware clay and are handcrafted from start to finish. The creation process, which involves forming the clay on the pottery wheel, air-drying it for several days, firing it in a kiln, glazing it, and then firing it again, takes several weeks for each item. Although producing stoneware inevitably involves tired hands and a lot (a lot!) of waiting, it is truly a rewarding labor of love. Grey Remedy’s elegant, minimalist pieces are designed to complement any space and create a soothing atmosphere. Our hope is that these pieces will help you to turn each part of your daily routine into a beautiful and peaceful moment.

Dear Friends, There's so much I want to say but I'll keep it short and sweet. Creating work is an exhilaratingly mysterious process. My never-ending need to explore new concepts is elemental to my creativity. The true nature of my work is DISCOVERY. My style is continually transforming and I find great pleasure in welcoming this creative metamorphosis. As we all know, change is inevitable in almost every aspect of our lives. How we express ourselves is no exception. For me, resisting these changes would just bind my creative limbs leaving me crippled and unable to express freely. My burgeoning mind is filled to the brim with ideas, and sometimes I'm reluctant to share them all with the world. Like Erykah Badu said, “Now keep in mind that I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about my shit.” But what is art if it isn't birthed into existence for others mind's eyes to see? Sharing is undeniably the most sincere form of love. There are many of you who have been with me from the start. You have seen my work evolve as the years march on. It's strangely like watching a child grow before your eyes. So in a sense you're all family. I truly appreciate your presence in my baby's life. For those of you who are new...welcome! And thank you for joining me on this creative journey. I hope you will receive my work with an open mind and heart. May you be inspired to welcome the changes in your own lives and to embrace the possibilities that become present to you. Create based on what makes you feel alive and never apologize to anyone for your personal transformations. You are the artist and your life is the ever changing masterpiece. Take pride in all the colors, strokes and textures that make up all that is you. Your ever-loving, Michelle

Malene Barnett

Luxury, Women Owned, Made in America
Malene Barnett is an artist, activist, and authority on the cultural traditions and practices of art in the African diaspora and how it translates into her vision of the modern black experience. From her sculptural ceramic tiles and vessels to mixed media paintings to handwoven rugs, Malene continues to evolve her craft and share her African heritage with a global audience. Using natural materials like the finest wools, silks, pastels and clay, she uncovers a deeper language of her legacy and an authentic understanding of her cultural identity. A passionate connector and expert ambassador, her mission is to use art as a tool to create community impact and open doors for the next generation of black artists and expand the conversation around marginalization in the arts and create greater opportunities for inclusion. As the founder of the Black Artists + Designers Guild, a global platform and curated collective of independent black artists, makers, and designers, Malene is always seeking new ways to define the black narrative and experience for a new generation while bringing awareness to inequality. She’s also on the board for CERF+, an organization that provides emergency loans to artisans and craftspeople during natural disasters. Equal parts artist, anthropologist, and activist, she hopes to bridge the function of textiles and ceramics from the African region by exploring what it means to be black in America today. Her work has been praised in Interior Design Magazine, New York Magazine, Traditional Home, Elle Decor, HGTV Magazine, Luxe + Design Magazine, and House Beautiful. She was also on the cover of Brownstoner Magazine and Wendy Goodman’s Designer Lives video series with New York Magazine’s The Cut. Her entrepreneurial spirit was captured in the NY Times bestselling book “In the Company of Women” and Home by Hygge & West. She has appeared as a guest speaker on Morning Joe, MSNBC Your Business, and TEDx. Malene’s clients include Marriott, Viacom, Saks, WeWork, Avalon Communities, and the MetLife Building. In 2019, she was awarded designer of the year by interiors + sources Magazine and the RADD Award (Real Estate, Architecture, Design Development) from Brownstoner.com. Naked Clay Ceramics

Home & Garden, Decor, Other, Miscellaneous, Arts & Crafts
Women Owned, Handmade
Simple to look at, lovely to hold, each item is one of a kind. Inspired by the natural colours and textures of the earth, Naked Clay Ceramics is a collection of quiet, tactile, minimal style tableware and homeware in black stoneware and white porcelain. Using a combination of handbuilding and slip casting, everything is made by hand in my studio in Bedfordshire. At high temperatures the clay dances in the kiln. When they leave the kiln these pieces don’t conform to the symmetrical perfection and uniformity found in factory made items. Each is individual and unique. The pieces are fired with no glaze on the outside so that the feel of the natural, fired clay can be appreciated. I hope that tactile connection brings an opportunity to pause, breathe and savour a small moment in the hustle and bustle of life. From my hands to yours, I hope the natural feel of fired earth in your hands gives you a moment to pause and enjoy.

Nur Ceramics

Nur Ceramics is a lifestyle ceramics line birthed out of a personal journey into the ceramics, culture, and rituals of the Sahara. A vision to bring the beauty and essence of everyday life in the desert into your hands. Dina Nur Satti is the designer and maker behind Nur Ceramics, and producers every piece out of her studio. Growing up around the Somali and Sudanese traditions of her parents, ceramics were a part of everyday life and conveyed the daily rituals of life along the Sahara desert. Some of her earliest memories of ceramics were of her grandmother burning frankincense and sandalwood in makbhars, and clay amphoras known as zir placed outside of homes to provide water for travelers. Dina's personal journey with ceramics is also a path to reconnecting with the indigenous culture of her homeland, as the Nubians of Northern Sudan and Southern Egypt were among the most legendary potters of the ancient world. Her background studying African and Middle Eastern cultures and societies, and her lifelong interest in cultural anthropology are infused into the intention and symbolism behind her work. Through her ceramics, she strives to provide a window into the aesthetic brilliance and artistic sophistication of cultures that are often overlooked.
