Meet the candle maker and brand manager, Akilah Jackson. Born and raised in Maryland with roots in Louisiana, Akilah is intentionally living to make an impact in the wellness industry. We need to create the time and space to practice self-care and mindfulness with aesthetics that awaken intrinsic motivation, stimulate curiosity, and promote cultural competence and interconnectedness." Each luxury candle is handmade with coconut wax, beeswax, essential oils, and hemp wick. The cosmetic-grade ingredients can be softened for use as lotion for hand or body. Inspired by the adinkra pictograms of the Akan and Ashanti people, Sunsum Intention Candles are handmade for self-care and mindfulness. Our candles melt at a very low temperature...so you are not pouring hot wax over your body should you decide to use the candle as a massage oils/moisturizer. We want customers to have a fun experience with our candles! You can use them as decor and/or use them to spice up the evening.

Spurred on by the loss of friend due to domestic violence, Sue Rock saw practical services were needed for survivors who leave. The 501(c)3 charity Sue Rock Originals EVERYONE, was created to provide textile training, empower people and restore skills.

The search for more When Ogechi was expecting her first child, she wanted to decorate the nursery with African-inspired bedding and home décor but all she could find was the typical cliché safari theme with the usual suspects - the lion, monkey, and elephant. “I wanted something that offered a more modern and diverse portrayal of Africa that reflected African experiences influenced by a global perspective. We and the continent are more complex than a safari.” Recognizing this void in the market, Ogechi decided to change the narrative. She created ụlọ to convey the diversity of African perspectives through inspiring, premium homewares for those who, like her, appreciate a home style that reflects a global perspective.
