Women Owned
OMNoire is a wellness social community for women of color dedicated to living well from the inside out. Our mission is to connect like-minded women through our events, retreats and online platform to cultivate strength, growth and positive manifestation in all areas of our lives. We believe that life truly begins through the interconnectivity of a healthy mind, body and spirit. What Is The Meaning Of OM? In Hindu mythology, before the world began, Brahma (the creator or absolute reality) was one, and He said, “I am one, but may I become many?” This thought created a vibration that settled into a sound. This sound was OM. From this vibration, everything in the universe sprang into existence. When you chant OM, the vibration from that sound correlates to the original vibrations that were sounded in the universe when the world was created. The sound of OM is often called Pranava, or that which runs through breath (Prana) and sustains life. OM is also a representation of the four states of the Supreme Being.

I share tools + resources that help you learn how to dive into your self-healing. I believe self-healing is important because it helps us navigate the tough stuff. And the tough stuff can keep you stuck in the past instead of finding joy + peace where you are right now. When we have self-awareness, we learn so much about who we really are. So often we’re not even listening to what we want, because a lot of us are trained to do what our families say or what society says out of fear of not fitting in. But we fit in best when we’re being ourselves. When we are aware of what we need, we’re more likely to take steps and make the changes we need as well.

Hello, I'm Janell Langford and I'm a graphic artist living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. For me drawing is therapeutic, It’s my self-care. I don’t feel whole or complete if I’m not being creative. Ever since I was a little girl I remember drawing being like a superpower. Even though I grew up in a house filled with chaos, if I was drawing I was able to block out the noise and be at peace. After high school, I started dating someone seriously and at that time I stopped drawing. The relationship became just as toxic and chaotic as my childhood and I had completely forgotten about my superpower. I suppressed the one thing in life that was my home frequency. Once I ended the relationship I started drawing again. The pain of the breakup lead me back to drawing and a rediscovery of my inner creativity. I've spent the majority of my adult life in white spaces, so it became important to me to begin to illustrate the representation that was missing from my surroundings and the media I consumed. From Michelle Obama's speeches to Beyonce’s Coachella performance I am overwhelmingly inspired by powerful black women. I begin to feel SEEN in reading Octavia Butler, hearing Janelle Monae talking about cyborgs, watching attorney Maxine Shaw on Living Single, and experiencing a live Santigold performance. Representation is everything. Soon I began the graphic design program at Seattle Central Design Academy. There I learned that I was passionate about creating a lifestyle brand that spoke truth to the kind of art that I wanted to see. That's how Obsidiopolis was born. The name comes from the word Obsidian, which is a protective stone that shields against negativity and also is a truth-enhancer. Black women and girls need to be encouraged to stand in their truth even when the world is not ready to listen. Obsidiopolis is a refuge, a sanctuary for black women and femmes to be empowered and inspired. After all, black women are from the future. When I'm not drawing pictures or daydreaming about a utopia of my own design, I'm watching Steven Universe, Thrifting, having solo dance parties and listening to my favorite podcasts.

For those of us who have chosen art, it is not a career or a hobby, but a passion, a way of life. Creativity is not limited by frames or borders but, is an endless expression of life and love. Who we are is seen through colors and images; pictures and videos; art, is our way in and our way out. The world is your canvas and you are the art. why are you doing it ? I do art because its the only thing that i know how to do. Whenever i get emotional, i feel the need to be holding a paint marker or a paint brush. I consume myself with art. what does your art express? My art convays pure and raw emotion. I like to call them "In the moment" emotions. My pieces are my time to speak even if i can't express it in words. My art means everything to me. What kind of materials do you use? I have this theory where i don't want to limit myself. I love trying, buying and using all types of different materials. I use acrylics, watercolores, pens, markers, paint markers, spray paint, wood burning, photoshop, illustrator, indesign... thats everything i can remeber right now! lol. Many more mediums I have yet to try... but in due time. Who inspires you? A lot of my inspiration comes from Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Hokusai just to name a few. I'm also very inspired by pop culture, vintage comics and movies and also varies cartoons.

Tribal Truths Collection exalts African culture while staying stylish. It is a tribute to African culture and pride with urbanized versions of traditional women’s clothing including coats, jackets, hats, t-shirts, full length wrap skirts, belts, and leather bags all in bold colors. Brenda created a line from her signature style. It started when someone asked her to recreate a cape she wore. She then sold at craft festivals around New York before becoming a part of 4W Circle in Brooklyn. After ten years of success there, she opened her own boutique in 2004. The Tribal Truths Collection boutique was part of designer’s row on Fulton St. for more than 14 years. In that time, she co-founded the Diaspora Art Mart, now known as the Diaspora Arts Collective. She is also a part of many community activities and events, including the Fort Greene Juneteenth Celebration. Brenda has a distinguished clientele that includes senators, judges, and celebrities like Judith Jameson, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Aretha Franklin, and Suzzanne Douglas, just to name a few. What does Brenda have to say about fashion? “I am constantly awed and inspired by how Black Folks of all ages make fashion their own. I see a sense of pride and significance of the garments they wear and try to create a sense of history, because I want them to feel beautiful and relevant in the clothing as an extension of their personalities.”

A card can bring a smile to anyone's face! I don't really remember how I got started making cards... I think the first cards I created were Christmas cards for my family because I couldn't afford to buy any. My first etsy shop was jewelry, but I never really found my niche. My second etsy shop was a paper shop started with my sister. This is my third and final shop and I'm still creating cards, but I'm on my own now and I love it. The more cards I make, the more I love the whole process of creating them. I love to find new techniques... embossing, heat embossing, die cutting, stamping or just creating in photoshop... I love it all. Creativity is life! Not a day goes by that I am not thinking about card making. I'm either watching youtube videos to learn a new technique, looking at different stamps or paper, or creating something. I get an idea in my head and off I go...cutting, stamping, embossing, writing or whatever else is needed to create something special. I'm now learning calligraphy so I can incorporate it into my creations. People pick up a card, and it instantly transports them to a happy place. Have you ever seen someone in the Hallmark store, crying? or laughing? Yeah, me too! My favorite thing to do is laugh, so I always start there. I also have a sweet personality, with a sometimes raunchy sense of humor. I've also done improv comedy, so my go to cards are usually funny or raunchy cards. We have become too digital. It's good to take a step back to earlier days and send an "old school" card to someone.
