Addictive Apothecary is a family-based black-owned business. Owner Millicent Richardson created it because her daughter wanted more mommy-daughter time, and she asked if they could make candles together. Richardson was always buying candles and was often unhappy with them. Much research went into learning the process of candle making. The newly-minted African American business owner also had to find quality suppliers in order to ensure that her candles were several notches above others on the market. The mommy-daughter team started giving the candles away as gifts, then the pair took to selling them at their local flea market for fun. The candles soon came into high demand. Friends and family members began to place orders for gifts. Then it appeared that the word was getting about their candles. The rave started, and Addictive Apothecary was born. The company has expanded, and now sells body-care products as well.

Alchemy Body Shop founder always leaned into creating things from scratch. This trend started since she was young. She created her beauty line because the black-owned skincare brands were lacking. Anything natural and organic was unaffordable. Growing up with sensitive skin, she knew the woes that came with not having variety. It seemed like only chemicals were flooding the beauty and skincare aisles. She was desperate to find a natural solution without the overpriced fluff. That’s when Alchemy Body Shop was born. This black-owned business came from a need for honest and clean products. Her clients needed a brand that is affordable and sustainable.
