I'm Kesha Young, Founder and CEO of YLC Candle. This business was inspired shortly after my father's passing. In 2017 I started playing around and it became an outlet to comfort and joy. It brought excitement and happiness within. Filled some of the missing voids in my heart. My company is UNIQUE because we make candles from the heart. We always ensure that our ENERGY AND INTENTIONS are Positive. We are here to Spread Good Vibes, Peace and Love.

We are based in Philadelphia, PA and ship nationwide. This phase of our store is online, and only features shelf-stable food items, and household products supplied by BIPOC-owned companies that can be delivered directly to customers. In 2021 we will begin shipping perishable products as well! All brands included on the platform are carefully selected and curated to uphold quality standards and appropriate product category distribution. We are creating a platform that will empower consumers to strategically shop exclusively with BIPOC owned brands, and establish a lasting partnership with suppliers. This is a key way for under-represented communities to keep resources "flowing," create jobs, and reclaim their stake in the food industry.

Although we've been in business for approx 2 years, the business has been extremely successful! We take pride in educating consumers on the effectiveness & benefits of our CBD infused products. The inspiration behind the brand was my Mother who suffered from extreme pain after having knee replacement surgery, surgery on her 2 wrists + being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis & recently Lupus. My name is Tope Adubi, the founder of Kilali Cosmetics. Kilali Cosmetics was launched in the US in February 2020 with a goal is to create inclusive quality makeup while infusing the knowledge of Africa and sharing the beauty that lies within the different 54 countries on the continent. I recognize the existing gap in the beauty industry and realize more hands need to be on deck to bridge this gap in an affordable and effective manner by providing makeup for the underserved in the industry. This is my inspiration behind this business. A key thing that makes us stand out in our business is the platform to enlighten our customers about Africa. We take this to heart by ensuring the ingredients used, our product names tie back to Africa. My core strength is in Digital Marketing. I worked at Africa's largest organization for empowering African entrepreneurs, Tony Elumelu Foundation, where I had the core responsibility of managing the online presence for the brand across social media, email marketing, website management, graphics design and digital media ads. In addition to my digital marketing skill, I possess leadership skills that have helped me through the launch of my business from working with different contract staff at different stages through product development, sales and marketing.

This willingness to experiment shows up in her creations. She enjoys seeing how her ingredients react with each other. She also likes to witness how much these creations delight her customers. She says that it is the ultimate reason why she does what she does. With 4 the Love of Bubbles, she wants to touch her unicorns in 3 ways: 1. Create amazing products to enhance their daily living; 2. Share her knowledge and experience as a consumer of bath and body products. This sharing is to help them make informed purchasing decisions; 3. Christina Funke Tegbe is the founder and visionary behind 54 Thrones. She has created an African luxury beauty brand inspired by the richness of the continent. As a child, Tegbe's Nigerian aunties indulged her. She knew about shea butter benefits for hair and skin from a tender age. The ingenuity and innovation across the motherland also moved her. Thus, she answered the call to share Africa with the world. In 2016, she left a career in corporate consulting to launch her beauty brand. The brand uses only ingredients ethically sourced and grown on African soil. This luxury beauty collection pays homage to African culture, elegance, and essence. The company sources its shea butter from Ghana and Uganda, baobab oil from Nigeria, and argan oil from Morocco. She also sources marula from South Africa and jasmine and neroli from Egypt. These active botanical ingredients lay the foundation for 54 Thrones' beauty formulas. Finally, a Black-owned beauty brand by a Black woman and made with ingredients from Black-owned sources!

Addictive Apothecary is a family-based black-owned business. Owner Millicent Richardson created it because her daughter wanted more mommy-daughter time, and she asked if they could make candles together. Richardson was always buying candles and was often unhappy with them. Much research went into learning the process of candle making. The newly-minted African American business owner also had to find quality suppliers in order to ensure that her candles were several notches above others on the market. The mommy-daughter team started giving the candles away as gifts, then the pair took to selling them at their local flea market for fun. The candles soon came into high demand. Friends and family members began to place orders for gifts. Then it appeared that the word was getting about their candles. The rave started, and Addictive Apothecary was born. The company has expanded, and now sells body-care products as well.
