BAYLOR & COMPANY is an example of how plans don't always go as planned. The original plan was to become a silversmith. Photos of jewelry crafted with silver and gemstones gave me a “I want to do that” moment. Thanks to a basic metalsmith course--in Manhattan of all places-- quickly followed with a couple of workshops in Media, I successfully became a terrible silversmith. To finance additional training, I produced jewelry kits comprised of high-quality stones, rocks, silver and Thai silver. Surprisingly, jewelry crafted from those kits began to sell as did the business. A craft show here, another there, word of mouth and surprise, we grew enough to start paying taxes -- which is around the time, we became "Baylor and Company". My metalsmithing improved but truth be told, I had more fun developing those kits and schmoozing with connoisseurs and aficionados of handcrafted jewelry. Well. That’s it. My “How it all began” story.
