African-American business owner Gionna Nicole started designing swimwear by accident. She spent a lot of time on the beach with her family growing up, and she was always in beachwear. Nicole created her first suit for herself, and the compliments and requests began coming in. Thus, began Avid Swim. She was a visual merchandising manager at Forever 21 for five years while building her
brand. She has now been able to make Avid Swim her full-time job! Nicole started with $8,000 to begin Avid Swim. This sum helped to develop the initial structure of the website and swimwear samples. Over the past two years, the brand has grown exponentially, expanding its collection with bright and stylish swimwear. Avid Swim is one of the few Black-owned businesses that offer swimwear online.
