Addictive Apothecary is a family-based black-owned business. Owner Millicent Richardson created it because her daughter wanted more mommy-daughter time, and she asked if they could make candles together. Richardson was always buying candles and was often unhappy with them. Much research went into learning the process of candle making. The newly-minted African American business owner also had to find quality suppliers in order to ensure that her candles were
several notches above others on the market. The mommy-daughter team started giving the candles away as gifts, then the pair took to selling them at their local flea market for fun. The candles soon came into high demand. Friends and family members began to place orders for gifts. Then it appeared that the word was getting about their candles. The rave started, and Addictive Apothecary was born. The company has expanded, and now sells body-care products as well.
